The ferry sank due to the impact of the Paturia bulkhead

A ferry named Rajnigandha, carrying passengers and vehicles, sank at Paturia Ghat in Manikganj, Bangladesh, due to a bulkhead impact. The incident occurred on Wednesday (January 17) around 8:30 am. As the ferry slowly sank in the Padma, locals reported hearing passengers screaming.

Following the accident, six people were rescued alive, but many passengers are still missing, prompting ongoing rescue efforts. Deputy General Manager Shah Md. Khaled Nawaz of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha Regional Office confirmed the information, stating that the ferry sank near ghat number 5 after colliding with the bulkhead. Thick fog is cited as the cause of the accident.
